Erith and Thamesmead is an area with a rich history and vibrant communities. Our parliamentary constituency covers a wide area including Thamesmead, Abbey Wood, Lesnes Abbey, Belvedere, Northumberland Heath, Erith, and Plumstead, with each area having its own identity and local history. We are incredibly proud to be represented by our 17 Labour Councillors and the fantastic Abena Oppong-Asare MP, who fight hard to stand up for our community.

The constituency combines eight electoral wards across two boroughs: Abbey Wood, Plumstead, and Thamesmead Moorings in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Belvedere, Erith, West Heath, Northumberland Heath, and Thamesmead East in the London Borough of Bexley. Each ward has it’s own Branch Labour Party (BLP).

John Austin was the MP for this constituency from its creation for the 1997 general election until he stepped down at the May 2010 election. He was followed by Teresa Pearce until the December 2019 election. Since then Abena Oppong-Asare has held the seat for Labour.

Abena works tirelessly to promote Erith and Thamesmead in Parliament and campaigns on the issues that affect our area. She has helped thousands of constituents through the COVID-19 pandemic and is a strong local voice for residents in Parliament.

Our local party is one of action, and we work tirelessly with our elected representatives and other organisations to ensure that our area is safe and prosperous. We meet regularly and discuss current affairs and policy, and campaign on issues that threaten our community. The Constituency Labour Party in Erith and Thamesmead meet monthly and each individual Branch Labour Party also meets locally each month. We often host social and fundraising events and are out knocking on doors across Erith and Thamesmead regularly.

As a party we believe that by working together we achieve more than we can alone. Together we can change our community and our country so that it works for you, not just a powerful few at the top.
